Indoor bowls centres are open for long hours, often seven days a week, which is why it is so crucial to ensure energy costs are kept to a minimum. As a key partner of the EIBA, Utility Bidder is fully aware of the challenges faced by indoor bowling clubs across the country when it comes to managing energy bills.
We can help mitigate some of those costs by helping your bowling centre find the most competitive price for its gas and electricity provider. What’s more, it is really easy to switch from one provider to another because our energy experts do all the hard work for you to source the best deals from 27 companies across the country.
All your bowling club has to do, is provide us with a letter of authority – that tells the companies we are speaking to that we have your permission to act on your behalf, and, if possible, let us have a couple of your old bills. You can carry on running your business while we get on with finding you a better price for your gas and electricity. It really is that easy.
As well as saving money on your bowling club energy bills by switching your energy provider with Utility Bidder, you can also start to thinking about small changes you can make yourself to save money and reduce your carbon footprint.
Externally, it’s important to ensure you have adequate lighting to ensure your team, visiting teams and members of the public have safe access to the Club from their cars or coaches. Changing your lighting will save you money if you get it right which is why it’s always a good idea to contact an expert. You can also refer to some of the excellent free guides provided by the Carbon Trust.
For car parks, it says that LEDs are increasingly used as they reach full output instantly, which enables them to be switched on and off easily. Car park and security lighting can be controlled effectively with presence detectors which could be combined with time clocks. However, as bowling club are often found in residential areas, you may also have to seek guidance from your local authority to ensure your lighting takes into account your nearest neighbours.

You are no doubt aware that the UK is heavily dependent on buying its energy from Europe and that wholesale energy prices have risen quite a bit. Let’s be honest, whatever happens politically, energy prices are not likely to go down. Switching and fixing your bowling club’s energy now makes financial sense. You don’t even have to wait for your current deal to come to an end. In fact, it’s better if your bowling club talks to Utility Bidder around a year before your current tariff finishes. We can find you a new tariff now – and once it’s been agreed with your provider it will be fixed. Switch and fix now to lock in the best prices for your bowling club.
Energy UK, the industry’s trade association, has also issue plain warnings about the cost of energy. Plans have been discussed for a future carbon-pricing mechanism, and that is likely to further increase cost pressure which places even more likelihood that business energy bills will go up. Another reason for your bowling club to switch and fix now. It is particularly important in large hotels with many facilities to create zoned area with their own thermostatic controls. This allows you to manage the heating and turn it down or off when not in use. If your budget can stretch to intelligent guest management systems which can check whether or not a guest in his or her room, you will recoup the investment in energy savings cost over a few years. For other, smaller venues, where that may not be feasible, ask staff to become energy champions for their areas. This will encourage them to take control of their departments and look at ways to save your business money.
While Utility Bidder is not able to give you a definite figure on your bowing clubs savings, we can tell you with confidence that savings are there to be made –you have nothing to lose by allowing Utility Bidder to search the market to find the best result for your bowling club. Our energy experts will work with indoor bowling clubs across the country to gain competitive gas, electricity, water and even telecoms prices from suppliers large and small. Talk to us today about how we can help your indoor bowling club – money saved on your utility bills can be used elsewhere to ensure your bowling club has a bright future.
The entrance to the bowling club should of course, be warm and inviting but when doors are constantly opening and closing, valuable warmth will be let out and cold air will enter the building. Therefore, consider building a draught lobby to the main entrance. This will ensure the main lobby is not affected by external temperature. In the social areas of your club make sure the temperature is set at the correct levels. For spectators, anything from 18ºC to 21 ºC is adequate and the more people you have in the space the lower the temperature should be. Ensure the thermostat is checked regularly and set the timer to meet the needs of the club.
For players, the recommended temperature on the green is 18ºC which is a pleasant and comfortable temperature. Appoint a club member to be responsible for setting thermostats – even turning your temperature down by a degree will save you pounds over a year. Finally, in areas that are not always in use such as store rooms and cloak rooms, consider installing presence and ambient lighting detection which will also reduce your bills.
Paul Kay was fantastic in securing us a great deal and explaining everything in full. Thanks and would wholeheartedly recommended.
Excellent service from Kenny in the Manchester office, he worked hard to find the best price for me and explained everything along the way.
Will definitely use him again in the future and would recommend.
I spoke to Paul Kay this morning who in the space of 30 mins looks to have halved my salon electric bill, he was personable, knowledgeable and honest. The proof will be seeing if the bills actually reduce and if so I will leave another review but so far an excellent service
